Who we are

The Launceston Walking Club runs primarily bushwalking, but also cycling, kayaking, skiing and caving trips all over Tasmania. We have 2-3 trips scheduled for most weekends, year round, and often have mid-week evening trips closer to Launceston. We have something for all ages and levels of experience and we love welcoming new members and visitors.

Our Objectives

To encourage and promote bushwalking and other allied outdoor activities.
To support the conservation of scenic areas, flora and fauna.
To support the maintenance of walking tracks.
To foster social activity amongst club members.

The Club

Our club caters for a range of ages, abilities and recreation interests. Some trips require a high level of fitness together with experience in alpine conditions. For other walks, enthusiasm and a moderate level of fitness are sufficient. Our schedule includes walking, cycling and kayaking trips and occasionally other activities such as caving. Our meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month include reviews and previews of trips as well as other club business. We also have an active Social Committee which coordinates regular get-togethers such as the annual dinner, Christmas party, social retreat, informal dinners and a quiz night.

Langana

We publish a Club magazine 'Langana' three times per year which is included with your membership. It contains trip reviews and previews as well as a range of articles and information such as social events, quotable quotes, safety and first aid information, and articles on Tasmanian wilderness and walking history or overseas walking adventures. It is voluntarily maintained by our publications committee and also features photos taken by members on recent trips and winning entries from our photo competitions.
